Blessed are the feet of those who bring the good tidings. December 6th 2022, was a historic day in the life of St. Joseph’s English medium School, Sankarakhol. The Josephite family at Sankarakhol was looking forward to this red letter day to welcome our dear Superior General Sr. Breda.
The school accorded a traditional and formal welcome to Sister. It was a unique way of depicting the local culture with music and dance. The students stood on either side of the road with flowers in their hands from the school’s entrance gate. The boys escorted her with drum beats, and a welcome entrance dance was performed. The staff at the stage welcomed the sister with an arati, badge, garland and a bouquet.
Sr. Catherine unfolded a brief introduction about Sr. Breda’s great personality, origin, achievements and success stories as the leader of our global family of St. Joseph. Sr. Liby George, the school’s principal, welcomed Sr. Breda cordially and presented before her the richly textured story of St. Joseph’s English Medium School and the upward graph of our school’s achievements. She thanked everyone who was a significant part of its glorious journey since its humble beginning.
Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see.” “Children see magic because they look for it.” A group of students came up with pride and enthusiasm to express their views on their school. It was indeed mind-blowing to listen to them.
The eastern Indian state of Odisha has a rich heritage of dance and music that is a delight for all arts and culture lovers. Odissi dance is one of India’s principal classical dance styles; the Sambalpuri folk dance originated from the vibrant Sambalpur district, where the performers sing and dance to the beats of drums. Kui dance is very popular among the people of Kandhamal. The students from various classes put up a mini depiction of Odisha’s culture in the form of a beautiful fusion dance. Furthermore, that was a fabulous performance.
Finally, the moment came to give a listening ear to the message of the Superior General. She thanked the sisters, staff and students for their warm welcome and expressed gratitude for the tangible growth in St. Joseph’s English Medium School, a phoenix rising from the ashes. She assured prayers for every new initiative and activity of the school. Sr. Breda was felicitated with the traditional shawl and a memento. Miss Monica proposed the votes of thanks and expressed joy and gratitude. The visit of the Superior General had been fraternal, fruitful, much appreciated, and encouraging.
